Quick Thoughts – Jeff Fisher to St. Louis Rams 1/13/12

Jeff Fisher chose to be the head coach of the Rams because of one thing Miami didn’t have, a quarterback. Fisher believes Sam Bradford can be a franchise quarterback and that he’s the guy that can help Bradford along. In 2011, St. Louis took a big step back from 2010. The Rams were expected to make a splash in the NFC West, and with the addition of Fisher, those same expectations will be even more prevalent in 2012.
St. Louis’ 2-14 record grants them the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 draft. Jeff Fisher coming to town guarantees that the Rams will not draft Robert Griffin III and possibly look for a WR in Justin Blackmon or head in the defensive direction to provide depth at the linebacker position.
Fisher was the most tenured head coach before his departure after the 2011 season. Fisher was caught in the crossfire between owner Bud Adams and QB Vince Young. In my opinion, Fisher wanted nothing to do with Young, but Adams was all-in and their disagreement ultimately pushed Fisher out.
The great thing about Fisher is he always put a competitive team on the field. In Tennessee he never had the best talent in the AFC, but no one ever wanted to play the Titans. Fisher brings a simplicity and discipline to the Rams they were severely lacking with Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnoulo was a great defensive mind as a coordinator with the NY Giants, and he’s likely to go to Philadelphia, but his versatility isn’t as strong as what Fisher brings. The Rams made a big splash in the NFC West.
